Friendly Holidays began in Brooklyn on Thanksgiving of 2020: The week before Thanksgiving, a Friendly Fridge client asked if we were going to have turkeys and hams for the holiday. Recognizing a need, we sourced and distributed over 200 full Thanksgiving meals—including uncooked turkeys, hams, potatoes, cornbread mix, and cranberry sauce—for our first Friendly Holiday Giveaway in 2020. Thanks to donations from the FFN partners, grants, as well as our food drives and fundraising events (such as bake sales and GoFundMe collections), we donated over 1,800 Thanksgiving meals in 2022 and 2023. In addition, the FFN launched Easter and Christmas initiatives that have distributed over 9,900 holiday meals since 2020.
